Columbia River Container Service Committee

Welcome to the Columbia River Container Service Committee’s Web site. As the committee’s co-chairs, we appreciate the cooperation of the region’s international business community in the collaborative effort that resulted in the arrival of new and expanded ocean carrier services to the Port of Portland.

These changes are very significant: The expansion of the CKYH service (COSCO/K-Line/Yang Ming/Hanjin), with the larger vessels introduced by Hanjin and the first Portland calls by COSCO, as well as the new five ship service of Yang Ming, greatly increase our ability to serve the China and north Asia markets.

The start of the new Zim American Integrated Shipping Services AMP service (Asia/Mediterranean/Pacific) with their partners, China Shipping and CSAV/Norasia, add capacity to the China, north Asia regions, but also now offer Portland shippers the first direct ocean service to South and Southwest Asian markets such as Singapore, Sri Lanka and the Indian sub-continent (via transshipment). Additionally, this service offers the direct, no transshipment service to Israel, Greece, Turkey, and the entire eastern Mediterranean area.

Finally, the recent purchase of CP Ships by the large global carrier Hapag-Lloyd continues to provide Portland shippers with service to Europe and Mexico, with down-stream potential for expansion.

We’re not done yet, with numerous projects underway at the Port to provide service to under-served markets; to bring international conferences to Portland; and to attract world-class businesses to our area with new distribution center and transload operations.

Thank you very much for your support.
