Port Supports Friends of Trees
Since 2008, the Port of Portland has contributed annually to Friends of Trees to support the urban tree canopy in the Portland metropolitan area.
Along the way, Port employees have volunteered at Friends of Trees planting events, especially in neighborhoods near Port operations.
Recently, the Port committed support to Friends of Trees for planting trees in the Columbia Slough Watershed, as part of the outcome of Airport Futures, the integrated, long-range development plan for Portland International Airport.
Locally, the Friends of Trees mission is to bring people in the Portland-Vancouver area together to plant and care for city trees and green spaces. Through the Friends of Trees Green Space Initiative, trained crew leaders guide volunteers at weekend events to restore public natural areas. Through their Neighborhood Trees program, homeowners buy discounted trees to plant with their neighbors at weekend plantings.
