Solar Power at PDX
In 2010, the Nike store in the Portland International Airport terminal building started being powered by solar energy. Nike, Delta Airlines and the Port of Portland joined forces to install solar panels on the airport's roadway canopy. The 30-kilowatt installation supplies 100 percent of the Nike store's needs. A display in the store includes a video that illustrates the partnership and real-time solar activity. The solar panels themselves can be viewed from the 7th Floor of the parking garages, on the east edge of the glass canopy over the terminal roadway.
The PDX deicing stormwater treatment facility also includes an array of solar panels that help power the facility. The performance of both installations is publicly available by visiting the website, Sunny Portal.
