Established in 1891 by the Oregon legislature, the Port of Portland today owns four marine terminals on the Columbia and Willamette rivers, three airports (Portland International, Hillsboro, and Troutdale) and five business parks. The mission of the Port is to enhance the region’s economy and quality of life by providing efficient cargo and air passenger access to national and global markets. Portland International Airport handled about 14.4 million passengers last year and about 219,000 tons of air cargo. Our marine terminals handle a variety of imports and exports like autos, fertilizer, minerals to make glass, grains and all kinds of things that come and go in containers such as clothes, furniture, frozen French fries and other Oregon manufactured goods and agricultural products. Last year about 13.3 million tons of marine cargo crossed our docks.
