(Oct. 15, 2008) – Oregon Communities Celebrate Nonstop Air Service Connecting
Klamath Falls & North Bend with Portland
Vital Air Service
Provided by United Express/SkyWest Airlines
Oregon
communities today celebrated nonstop air service connecting Klamath Falls and
North Bend with Portland.
Members
of the Oregon Commercial Air Service Coalition, instrumental in establishing
the vital service on United Express, operated by SkyWest Airlines, celebrated
in all three cities, flying from Klamath Falls to Portland International
Airport, and then to North Bend.
To secure
the nonstop air service connecting Klamath Falls and North Bend with Portland,
Gov. Ted Kulongoski formed the Oregon Commercial Air Service Coalition, which
helped establish a revenue guarantee contract with the City of Klamath Falls
and the Coos County Airport District with United Airlines/SkyWest Airlines. In
addition to the local dollars, federal grants and assistance from the City of
Portland helped finalize the contract. Port of Portland is providing marketing
support to help make the service successful.
“We thank
United Express, SkyWest and all of our partners who helped make this air
service a success,” said Dan Clem, Director for the Oregon Department of Aviation.
“The partnerships formed by the communities of Klamath Falls, North Bend and
Portland, with their businesses, local governments and elected officials, are
the foundation for this success. These partnerships prove our local resolve for
economic sustainability within Oregon’s.”
"We're
pleased to bring the United Express brand to these routes as we strengthen our
partnership with these communities and the state of Oregon," said Mike
Thompson, SkyWest Airlines' vice president – market development.
“We are
pleased to join our partners today in celebrating these new services and
strengthening our commitment to the Pacific Northwest,” continued David Jehn,
United’s managing director – North America planning.
United
Express regional partner SkyWest will operate the two daily round-trip flights
with a 30-passenger Embraer 120 Brasilia aircraft.
