Elephants Delicatessen opens at Portland International Airport

Flying Elephants at PDX marks the deli’s fifth retail location and second opening of the year.

PORTLAND – Just in time for the holiday travel season, locally-owned Elephants Delicatessen is opening a new location at Portland International Airport.

Flying Elephants at PDX will open Nov. 23 in the airport’s Oregon Market Place, outside of security.

The restaurant will feature Elephants Delicatessen’s longtime favorites such as its fresh soups, salads and sandwiches as well as daily specials, espresso and bar. The space has been completely renovated with Elephants Delicatessen’s signature design features including black and white tile floors, beautiful cases packed with our fresh foods and a whimsical mural.

“We are excited that despite the down economy, we’ve managed to grow and open two new locations this year,” said Anne Weaver, CEO of Elephants Delicatessen. “The airport is focusing on Oregon businesses, and we are a perfect fit with our fresh, local foods made from scratch.”

“Elephants Delicatessen has always been great for people on the go. We offer healthy, individual items that will be easy for travelers to pick up and get through security, and we’ll have daily specials and cocktails for that person who has a little more time,” Weaver continued.

Elephants Delicatessen is excited that the partnership also furthers its sustainability goals with the airport’s focus on compost, recycling and other sustainable business practices.

The opening means business growth for Portland’s deli since 1979.

  • It created18 new jobs.
  • It is Elephants Delicatessen’s fifth retail location.
  • It is Elephants Delicatessen’s second opening of the year, following by Elephants on Wheels, 625 SW Fifth Ave., in the Macy’s building.
