Nov. 10 Meetings Focus on Hillsboro Airport

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PORTLAND, ORE. (Nov. 5, 2009) – Nov. 10 Meetings Focus on Hillsboro Airport

Port of Portland will host two meetings Nov. 10 related to Hillsboro Airport.

The Hillsboro Airport Issues Roundtable meets from 5:00-5:30 p.m. in Washington County’s Charles D. Cameron Public Services Building, 155 North First Avenue, Room 120.

A Hillsboro Airport parallel runway environmental assessment open house and public hearing is scheduled from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the same location.

The Hillsboro Airport Issues Roundtable meeting includes review of minimum standards for airport businesses and an update on airport zoning recommendations recently passed by the Hillsboro City Council. The committee is the official forum for discussions about airport operational issues. Hillsboro Airport has some 240,000 annual operations and supports jet, propeller aircraft, and helicopter operations.

The open house and hearing are devoted to the environmental study of a proposed new parallel runway at the airport. A draft environmental assessment of the project was completed in October and is currently open to public review and comment. Public comments will be accepted at the meeting and forwarded to the Federal Aviation Administration, which is overseeing the project.

Those interested in learning more about the proposed runway can read the draft environmental assessment available at www.pdx.com. It is also available for review at Hillsboro libraries, the Hillsboro Civic Center, and the Port of Portland headquarters.
