FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE
PORTLAND, ORE. (March
12, 2012) – Statement on PDX-Washington National Airport Route Efforts
A
statement from Bill Wyatt, Port of Portland Executive Director, regarding
efforts to establish nonstop air service linking Portland International Airport
and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport:
Establishing
a nonstop route connecting PDX and Washington National Airport is our top
domestic service priority.
Currently,
nonstop service from Oregon and Southwest Washington is limited to just a
single daily flight between PDX and Dulles airport. PDX is the second largest
market without nonstop service to Washington National, making it an ideal
candidate for such service. More than 186,000 travel each year between
Oregon/Southwest Washington and Dulles or Washington National. The Washington National
location offers great convenience, providing the closest access to Washington
D.C., one of our country’s most important business markets. Nonstop air service
also increases schedule reliability over one-stop service.
It’s
vital that we seize this rare opportunity to obtain one of the very limited
number of slots available to Washington National.
