PORTLAND, ORE. (May 30, 2013) – PDX South Runway Reopens June 10

Aircraft will return to normal flight paths June 10, when the Portland International Airport south runway reopens.

The runway closure allowed repairs to concrete damaged when a military jet’s tire failed, causing its landing gear to scrape the runway.

The early completion of south runway repairs is good news for neighbors living north and south of the airport. That’s because they saw increased flights over their neighborhoods during the runway closure, as more flights than usual used the airport’s crosswind runway.

Work began in mid-April, and will complete earlier than scheduled, eliminating the need for a previously planned second phase of construction later this summer. The accelerated progress came through construction efficiencies and weather conditions favorable for construction.

The reconstruction of the eastern portion of Taxiway C, adjacent to the south runway, will continue through mid-October. No related flight schedule delays or flight path changes are expected.
