The Port of Portland is dedicated to maintaining and improving a work environment which extends equal opportunity to all individuals, regardless of their race, color, sex, religion, or national origin. We affirm through this policy statement our continuing commitment to the principles of nondiscrimination and affirmative action.

Toward this end, the Port has adopted an affirmative action program which is developed and maintained to comply with regulations pertinent to federal contractors and recipients of federal assistance.

Through written programs of specific result-oriented goals, each member of Port management is charged with the responsibility to take effective action to achieve the objective of equal opportunity for all.

This policy applies to all employment practices, including recruiting, hiring, benefits, social and recreational programs, compensation, promotions, transfers, Port-sponsored training and educational programs, downgrade, layoff, recall, and any other terms and conditions of employment.

The Port will ensure that promotion decisions are in accord with the principles of equal employment opportunity by imposing only valid requirements for promotional opportunities. Port policy prohibits racial, ethnic, religious, and sexual harassment. The Port of Portland intends to continue to recognize the worth of each individual based solely upon his or her performance and contribution to the success of the Port.
