Registered Travelers
At other airports, Registered Traveler members pay a fee to use a special security screening lane. PDX has discussed the fee-based Registered Traveler program with the Transportation Security Administration and the airlines to determine if the program could be beneficial in Portland.
PDX is one of the few U.S. airports offering free security checkpoint Express Lanes. This service works with most airline frequent flier cards, and all Seattle shuttle passengers at our A/B/C security checkpoint. This service reduces wait times and allows frequent travelers to proceed to the front of the checkpoint queue. Since Registered Travelers are required to go through the same TSA screening process as regular travelers, we found no significant benefit to our frequent travelers to charge them for using a special lane that they are now using for free.
We continue to work closely with the TSA and the airlines to improve the screening process for our travelers, and we will continue to monitor this program to see if it has merit for our airport in the future.
