Korean Air celebrates 10th anniversary serving Portland market
Celebrating 10 years of stimulating trade between Portland and Asia, Korean Air Cargo gathered some of its best customers aboard the Portland Spirit Jan. 28 to thank them for their partnership in serving the Portland market.
During the event, Korean Air Cargo highlighted some of its more memorable shipments, such as live crabs and race horses. The airline began serving Portland International Airport (PDX) Jan. 29, 1996. They were the first foreign flagship carrier to serve Portland and have served the market longer than any other international freighter.
“Over the past 10 years, Korean Air Cargo has increased Oregon’s trading relationships with not only South Korea, but all of the areas throughout Asia that the airline serves,” said Heidi Benaman, cargo air service development manager for the Port. “This is a milestone anniversary for Korean Air Cargo, PDX, and all the regional trade businesses that benefit from the airline’s nonstop service.”
Ranked the world’s largest cargo airline by the International Air Transport Association, Korean Air Cargo offers three weekly nonstop flights between Portland and South Korea year-round, with expanded charter service in the summer months for cherry exports.
